Total bilirubin

A yellow pigment made when red blood cells are broken down and cleared by the liver.

If it's high

Can cause yellowing of skin or eyes; may relate to the liver, bile ducts, or harmless Gilbert syndrome.

If it's low

Low values are not a concern.

A question for your doctor

Is this direct or indirect bilirubin, and does it need follow-up?
